• Vermilion is French for "lake of the sunset glow"
• June 8, 2010, the State of Minnesota closed a 3,000-acre land transaction with U.S. Steel, establishing Minnesota's newest state park.
• Together with Soudan Underground Mine, the new park will include almost 10 shoreline miles on Lake Vermilion, with access to 40,557 acres of water.
• The DNR has already started its park master planning process and would like some early public input
from you about what you'd like to see in the new park.
• Watch here for updates on access to day-use areas, which are becoming available as safety measures and resource protections are put in place.
