Clubhouse

Clubhouse has been converted to a museum which includes two floors of exhibits, a gift shop and park office.

Naturalist Programs

At the Mine

Guided interpretive tours are available Wednesday through Sunday and holidays from Memorial weekend through Labor Day. Group tours are available spring, summer and fall by contacting the park in advance.

Historic Site

Mine and Facilities

The open-pit mine and mining facilities are listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The park is also designated as a site along the Heritage Tour route of northeast Minnesota.

Tours

Mine and Facilities

Hill Annex offers three different tours: a mine tour, a boat tour and a fossil hunt. Each tour is 1.5 hours in length and is offered once a day, Wednesday through Sunday and holidays, from Memorial Weekend through Labor Day. The fossil hunt begins as 10 a.m., the mine tour is at 12:30 p.m. and the boat tour begins at 3 p.m. Tour rates are $10 per person for adults, $6 per person for children 5-12 years old, and free for children under 5. Advance reservations can be made online or by phone through the reservation service. The reservation fee is $8.50 and up to 10 spots on a tour can be held with one reservation. Some spots on each tour are kept available on a first-come, first-served basis. Group tours also available in spring, summer and fall by special arrangement with the park.

Park Office

Nature Store in the park includes gift items, park specific items, mining and geology-related books and items. In addition, the Depot Arts and Crafts Committee, located just outside the park gates, sells gift items, various arts and crafts items and food items.

Observation Tower

Located outside the Clubhouse. Excellent for viewing the mine pits.
