Great River Bluffs

Image of Great River Bluffs State Park

This is beautiful bluff country! The park contains two Scientific and Natural Areas (SNAs), King's and Queen's Bluff. The King's Bluff trail offers a breathtaking view of the Mississippi River Valley. Bring your binoculars; the river valley is a major flyway for waterfowl, eagles, and hawks. Explore the diversity in this park: oak-hickory and maple-basswood forests, pine plantations, fields, and goat prairies offer visitors excellent hiking and a diversity of wildlife. Look for ruffed grouse, wild turkeys, coyotes, and many species of songbirds.

Visitor Alert!

Two special deer hunts will be conducted in the park and public access portions of Kings/Queens Bluff SNA this year.

Regular firearm hunts will be conducted November 22-24 and November 28-30. The park and SNA are open to all visitors during these time periods, but visitors should be aware of the special hunt and should wear blaze orange (or brightly colored clothing) if they plan to recreate within the park or SNA. All visitors should check for hunt-related information at the park contact station or office during these time periods, and look for signage related to the special hunts.

All campsites and trails are open.
