Wild Indigo Prairie is one of the finest examples of mesic tallgrass prairie left in Southeastern Minnesota. This abandoned Chicago-Milwaukee right-of-way contains many fine examples of blacksoil prairie, with over 340 native plant species. The site contains such rare plants as wild quinine, compass plant, white wild indigo, and plains wild indigo. Prairie favorites such as Indian plantain, prairie milkweed, and valerian are well established here. Valerian blooms in late spring; wild indigo, compass plant, and blazing stars, in late summer. Hike the prairie from Dexter to the Cedar River for a memorable trip.
