Track: With rising gas prices, more and more people will be staying closer to home this Fourth of July holiday weekend. And that means the campgrounds at Minnesota state parks are going to be busier than usual.
DNR Parks and Recreation Director Courtland Nelson says that up to 30 percent of the campsites in each state park are available on a first come basis - so there are camping opportunities available for people making last minute plans.

"The Fourth of July weekend is one of our busiest camping weekends of the year. We still have sites available. On top of that, there’s a state park within 30 miles of just about everyone in the state of Minnesota so you don’t have to drive very far and you can enjoy a great weekend of camping and outdoor fun."
Track: Nelson also added that if people are planning to stay at a resort or a cabin over the holiday weekend, they should check out the many family-friendly state park programs being offered. Most of the programs are free, although a state park vehicle permit is required.
For program information, visit the state park page at www.mndnr.gov.
